Shorter days
This is the time of year that many people start to feel a certain heaviness creep in. Clients tell me they have less energy, they just want to sleep more, and things feel kind of... dull.
It's time for that natural winding down for the winter.
(And for clarity, I'm not talking about those who have clinical depression with a seasonal pattern, commonly called "seasonal affective disorder", which should be assessed and treated by a trained professional.)
You see, we haven't really caught up with all this new technology – like artificial lights, temperature controlled environments, and endlessly engaging apps.
Before all these advancements, when the days got shorter, we went to bed earlier and slept longer. There was less to do after nature transitioned to rest mode, so things got boring. And because it takes a lot of energy to regulate our body temperature in the cold, we conserved energy by staying put. The sunlight and weather changed and we rested.
So if you notice a gentle beckoning toward a slower pace, it's ok to listen and respect that call. Its ok to do less, even as everyone around you charges on into the hustle and bustle. Please take this to heart –
it's ok to slow down.
You're worth it.
