Recovery may not be what you think
The first-ever Great BFRB Get-Together was a huge success! So this week I'm going to be sharing some of the recurring themes and key takeaways from the BFRB conference last weekend.
Recurring theme #1:
Recovery may be different from what you think
It's understandable that many people struggling with BFRBs think recovery is all about stopping the behavior. However, those at the conference who are actually in recovery shared a profoundly different understanding.
Lauren Mckeany said it perfectly: "I'm not recovering from my BFRB, I'm recovering with my BFRB."
Nico Santamorena also had a priceless message (I'm paraphrasing here): "My recovery is about letting go of the shame, not how much I engage in my BFRB."
Over and over, we heard the same message: BFRB recovery is about living your life to the fullest – not about how much you pick/pull/bite.
And those who are living their life in recovery aren't entirely pick/pull/bite free – but they are free from their BFRB.
