My secret weapon for shifting out of a funk
Ever have one of those days where you're stuck in a funk and can't seem to shake it?
You've tried the deep breaths. Maybe scrolled for a distraction. But something is still holding you back.
Here's one of my favorite regulation strategies when I need a gentle reset: Mindset Music. Think therapist meets hip hop – healing lyrics, empowering messages, and a beat you can actually move to.
It's an entire genre I didn't discover until a couple years ago, and now I love it.
Music is one of the fastest ways to shift your nervous system state – and when you pair rhythm with messages that build you up instead of tearing you down? That's regulation and empowerment in one playlist.
One of my faves: "Take Up Space Sis" by Toni Jones
This one hits different when you've spent years shrinking yourself, people-pleasing, or over-apologizing. It's a powerful reminder that you don't need anyone's permission to be exactly where you want in life.
Give it a listen. Dance in your kitchen. Let it remind you that you're allowed to take up space – in your life, in your relationships, and in your own body.
And if you love this vibe, Toni Jones has several albums and none of them disappoint. You're welcome. 😉
